Requirements

  1. An undergraduate degree with coursework (12-18 hours, depending on the subject) related to at least one of the following areas: math, science, English, social studies, or a foreign language.

  2. A minimum 3.0 GPA in undergraduate coursework.

  3. Minimum ACT composite score of 21, OR minimum SAT score of 990 (verbal and math only), OR passing scores on the Praxis Core exam.

  4. Passing score on the Praxis II test in the subject area you wish to teach (click here for more information on the PRAXIS II test).*

  5. Participants must have a valid social security number and provide the Mississippi Department of Education with proof of lawful presence in the US.

* Application to the program can occur before taking the Praxis exam(s). Acceptance to the program can occur before test scores are confirmed, but full admittance to the program requires passing all testing requirements.

*The Master of Arts in Teaching program at the University of Mississippi meets the educational requirements for licensure in the state of Mississippi. The program has not determined if the program curriculum meets the educational requirements for state licensure or certification in the states, territories, or entities outside of Mississippi. Reciprocity of a Mississippi teaching license is determined by individual states and entities.
