1. What made you want to join the Mississippi Teacher Corps?
I think deep down, I've always wanted to be a teacher. As a kid, I would make my friends play school and I would always insist on being the teacher. Also, I had some great teachers that I really looked up to and who made me want to be a teacher even more.
2. What have you learned about yourself during this first year?
I have learned that I am resilient. The first year of teaching has not been easy and there's been some challenges along the way. But at the end of the day, I keep going because I love what I do.
3. How has the transition to living in the Deep South been for you coming from New England?
The South is different from the North, but mostly good different. I miss Dunkin' Donuts like every day, though. Also, I talk about Tom Brady too much and my kids think it's annoying.
4. What advice would you give a new teacher?
Make time for yourself, because teaching is super stressful. When you get home, do something that makes you happy. (Example: watch the same episode of Gilmore Girls you've seen 17 times already.)
