Why did you want to join the Mississippi Teacher Corps?

I came to Ole Miss from Utah, and I fell in love with the state. During my undergrad experience, I spent a lot of time volunteering in the state's public schools, and I was looking for an opportunity to give back to a place that has done so much for me. I thought I could do that in a meaningful, impactful way by joining MTC.

Who was your favorite teacher growing up and why?

I had an amazing AP Literature teacher in high school. He made me fall in love with poetry, and his influence was a big reason why I also majored in English at Ole Miss. I hope to inspire my students in a similar way.

What do you enjoy the most about being in the Teacher Corps?

I LOVE spending time with my students. They are smart, funny, and amazing.

What is your proudest moment as a teacher so far?

One of my proudest moments was when I overheard a few of my students boasting about how hard they have to work in my class. It was a moment that made me realize how much students want to be challenged. I love my kids.

The Mississippi Teacher Corps (MTC) selects exceptional college graduates to teach in high-poverty public schools in Mississippi. MTC provides training, support, certification, and a full scholarship for a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from the University of Mississippi. During the school year, participants receive full pay and benefits from their school district and attend graduate classes at the University of Mississippi.
