NAME: JULIA ENGLISH

COLLEGE: GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY

PLACEMENT: H.W. BYERS MIDDLE SCHOOL (HOLLY SPRINGS, MS)

1. What made you want to join the Mississippi Teacher Corps?

I'm interested in educational equity, policy, efficacy, and research.  The starting point to comprehend all of those aspects is to become a teacher.  I wanted the opportunity to learn as I taught and to work in areas I was needed.

2. What were you doing before you came to Mississippi?

I worked for a health care start-up in New York City.

3. You’re from the East Coast. How has your move down South been?

The move has been lovely.  The United States is a vast and truly beautiful place and I would be remiss if I didn't take opportunities to explore it in its entirety.  Southern hospitality and politeness has made the transition an easy one.  However, I do miss a New York bagel or pizza.

4. If you had one day to show friends from college what your new residence is like, what would you take them to see and do?

My roommate from college recently visited.  We visited William Faulkner's home.
